A stabilised fragment of ACTH with the hormonal activity removed, registered in Russia for stroke and cognitive indications. Evidence is almost entirely Russian.
ACTH is the hormone that drives cortisol release, but a short section of it turns out to have effects on the brain that have nothing to do with cortisol. Semax is that section, with a stabilising tail added. It does not raise cortisol. The reported effects are on attention, memory and recovery after ischaemic injury, with a proposed mechanism running through increased BDNF expression in the hippocampus.

Reported to rapidly upregulate BDNF and TrkB expression in rat hippocampus, modulate dopaminergic and serotonergic transmission, and produce neuroprotective effects in middle cerebral artery occlusion models.
