A synthetic tetrapeptide with longevity claims resting almost entirely on work from a single Russian institute. No independent replication and no modern registered trials.

Overview

Epithalon is a four-amino-acid peptide designed as a simplified copy of a pineal gland extract. The claims around it centre on telomerase, the enzyme that maintains the protective caps on chromosomes. Published work from one institute reports telomerase activation in cell culture and extended lifespan in rodents. That work has not been independently replicated by other groups, which is the single most important thing to know about this compound.

Reported safety signals

  • No independent safety data exist.
  • Telomerase activation is a double-edged mechanism — the same enzyme is reactivated in the large majority of human cancers. Any compound claiming to induce it warrants scrutiny that this literature has not received.
  • The concentration of both efficacy and safety data within one institute is the central evidentiary problem.

Common questions

Why is Epithalon graded D rather than F?

Grade F is reserved for compounds where well-conducted human evidence shows no effect or net harm. Epithalon has published preclinical and observational human data reporting positive findings — the problem is that it originates almost entirely from one institute and has never been independently replicated. That is a grade D profile: a real but unverified evidence base.
